Become a Literacy or Numeracy Network Teacher

The Department of Education and Training is looking for literacy and numeracy teachers in Melbourne and regional Victoria as part of the Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support (MYLNS) Initiative.

Literacy and numeracy teachers provide intensive literacy or numeracy teaching support to secondary students in Years 8 to 10 who are at risk of finishing school without the skills they need for future work or study.

What Network Teachers do

Here are just some of the things they do:

  • Work with up to four schools to provide direct, targeted support to eligible students
  • Collaborate with teaching and wellbeing staff to develop a deep understanding of student learning and to design individualised learning plans
  • Work with principals to develop a practice model and tailored student support plans
  • Monitor and analyse data to inform teaching and student learning improvement and track and monitor student progress
  • Participate in the world-class professional learning modules provided through the Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership
  • Share experiences and best practice in the MYLNS Community of Practice

Qualifications and experience

Network Teachers will have expertise in literacy or numeracy teaching, an ability to work directly with students with complex needs, and enjoy working in partnership with colleagues to improve student confidence and learning outcomes.

This exciting opportunity is open to teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in literacy or numeracy education.
