My journey so far

A few years ago, I was looking for a career change, something interesting and completely different from what I'd been doing previously. And it had to tick a few boxes.

I wanted a challenge where I could continually learn and develop. I wanted to work directly with people. And I didn't want to feel too comfortable where I'd fall into a routine. This career ticks all those boxes. It allows me to grow and develop as a person, and two years later, these are still being met, and even exceeded. 

My day-to-day work

At the start of a shift, we go through a shift handover to understand the current status of clients in custody, and any special requirements and risks that need to be considered.

Then as part of the incoming shift, I take over the care and management of people in custody, and any new persons who may be brought in during the shift. The individual tasks performed in these duties are quite varied and interesting.

How my work contributes contributes to the Victorian community

The Victoria Police Mission is to provide a safe, secure and orderly society by serving the community and the law. The work I do directly supports the Victoria Police Mission and in supporting the Victoria Police mission I am also directly supporting and contributing to the Victorian Community, which ultimately is the end goal.

I personally support diversity and inclusive practices. I am proud to work in a team that is diverse and inclusive because it reflects my own personal values.

I am proud to wear a uniform with the Victoria Police logo on it which reflects the work that Victoria Police does. I'm proud to be a part of the team that supports and assists the work performed by frontline members.

The work I do is challenging and rewarding yet it provides me with considerable job satisfaction. I really do feel that I'm positively contributing to the community.
