About the Role
Full time - Ongoing
The Vehicle Safety Officer is responsible for resolving mechanical and technical matters in relation to vehicle standards and compliance to roadworthiness standards and the requirements for registration. The role is also required to assist in the management and administration of authorised partners delivering vehicle safety products and services. The successful applicant will hold a Certificate 3 in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Motor Mechanic) and have comprehensive mechanical workshop experience.

Position Outcomes
• Provide technical knowledge and support to customers, partners and stakeholders to support current registration, vehicle safety and certification schemes
• Use technical knowledge and experience by contributing to investigations relating to possible matters of non-compliance to scheme requirements and prepare reports and statements under limited guidance
• Identify emerging automotive industry trends and vehicle technologies to influence the development and implementation of vehicle safety related policy.
• Contribute to the preparation of training and instructional material for vehicle safety subject matter to be published and distributed through various mediums to educate and inform customers and partners
• Initiates and maintains relationships with stakeholders to understand and resolve stakeholder issues and identify opportunities for business improvement
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA - As a Vehicle Safety Officer, you will apply your technical knowledge and experience to provide clear information and guidance to customers, partners, and stakeholders within the vehicle safety scheme, ensuring compliance with defined policies and standards. You will appropriately interpret and apply relevant registration legislation, regulations, and procedures to support effective decision-making. Exercising professional judgement, you will contribute to evidence-based briefs that meet the standards of proof required for administrative or prosecution decisions, often working with limited guidance. Your strong stakeholder management skills will enable you to negotiate effectively with partners to achieve compliance and successful business outcomes. You will also apply your technical expertise and administrative capabilities to resolve complex issues, enquiries, and complaints in line with policies and procedures. Additionally, you will independently schedule and prioritise your work activities to meet service standards and deliverables efficiently.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Mandatory
• Certificate 3 in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Motor Mechanic) and have comprehensive mechanical workshop experience.
Desirable
• Customer service experience in a fast-paced professional environment
• A personable customer-facing manner and strong written and verbal skills
