The Commission is an independent statutory body that promotes improvement in policies and practices affecting the safety and wellbeing of Victorian children and young people. It has a particular focus on vulnerable children and young people. The Commission is also the regulator for the Child Safe Standards (CSS) and the Reportable Conduct Scheme (RCS). Please note that the Victorian Government has announced that the Reportable Conduct and Child Safe Standards functions will transfer from the Commission for Children and Young People to the Social Services Regulator. Whilst recruitment to this role will commence at the Commission for Children and Young People, it is anticipated that the role will be transferred to the Social Services Regulator in early 2026.
About the opportunity
The Triage Officer applies a risk-based approach to manage incoming concerns and questions about compliance with the Standards. Demonstrating strong communication and analytical skills, the Triage Officer conducts preliminary assessments of concerns, addresses simple issues directly, and escalates matters to relevant officers. The Triage Officer also identifies and prepares referrals to both internal and external parties, provides timely and critical information and maintains comprehensive records. Tasks include determining whether concerns come within the Commission's scope of responsibilities, gathering and validating critical information, identifying risks, responding to enquiries about the Standards via phone and email, and preparing referrals to other regulators and where necessary making reports to Child Protection and Victoria Police.
The Triage Officer works collaboratively with team members and other teams in the Commission, including those responsible for providing legal advice and administering the Reportable Conduct Scheme. The Triage Officer may seek guidance and assistance from Senior members of the team to support the delivery of timely advice and action.
