Role
At North Geelong Secondary College, the Transitions Pathways Leader is an outstanding classroom teacher and a key member of the leadership and management team within the curriculum program. The Leading Teacher is innovative, proactive and a visionary in leading and managing the details of this position by demonstrating and modelling outstanding skills, knowledge and performance.
As the leader of a team or teams with a high degree of independence within the College, the Leading Teacher is responsible and accountable to the College Strategic Plan in relation to Transitions and Pathways. The Leading Teacher has a College focus and an appreciation of the culture of the College and its community.
The Leading Teacher will work with relevant key stakeholders and report to the College Principal.

Responsibilities
- Develop a transition plan involving Grade 4 to 6 students from feeder primary schools
- Promote closer relationships with feeder primary schools (both public and independent) through the development of programs associated with transition to secondary school and arrangement of visits to the College by primary school students throughout the year.
- In consultation with the Junior Sub-School Leader, Year 7 and Assistant Year 7 Coordinators, manage the Year 7 placement process (allocating students to Home Groups)
- In association with Primary school staff develop and distribute profiles of incoming Year 7 students
- Plan, implement rigorous Orientation and student Induction programs to ensure a smooth Grade 6 to Year 7 transition
- Organise and implement successful Year 7 Parent Information and Orientation activities
- Promote the school¿s scholarship program. Lead the selection process and implementation of Year 7 and Year 9 scholarship programs
- In consultation with key stakeholders, organise and implement all extracurricular activities as part of the Orientation and Induction programs
- Liaise with the Junior Sub-School Leader, Home Group Teachers and Curriculum Leaders to identify and evaluate issues which arise from class relationships following transition, and which require attention; Initiate planning and actions to address any issues identified
- Work with key stakeholders to determine incoming Year 7 student literacy and numeracy levels
- Communicate individual student learning needs to staff
- Undertake new parent College Tours for prospective parents and students
- Promote the College through Primary School newsletters and encourage primary students, parents and staff to become more familiar with North Geelong College and secondary schooling
- Attend Transition Network meetings
- Organise and run Transition activities (Primary School visits to NGSC or visits to Primary Schools and include co-ordination of projects and activities such Grade 5 and 6 STEM program, Young Leaders Breakfast, School SRC and student leaders to visit Primary schools, etc)
- Work closely with the Primary School Transition Coordinators, to implement transition activities such as Primary School Leadership forum, etc
- Organise Parent Forums and ensure a clear communication with all new Year 7 parents to the College
- Promote and support key stakeholders leading specialised programs such as; SEAL, AVID, Excellence in Sports, ACE, STAR and Student Leadership programs
- Plan and implement College Exploration events (Open Days, Information evenings, etc.) and lead the College publicity materials, including positive stories in the media
- Establish and enhance excellent links with local newspapers and other appropriate media outlets. Prepare and disseminate appropriate promotional material about the College to the community and/or media outlets through effective consultation with the Principal Team
- Lead and contribute to the NGSC newsletter, Facebook page and manage NGSC electronic billboard information
- Lead and co-ordinate the Pathways Team, consisting of the Careers, MIPs, VET, SBATs and VCE (VM) Coordinators
- Lead and coordinate the Deakin University DEAP (Access Express) program for Year 6 to 9
- Liaise with the school¿s marketing staff member, updating them on school initiatives
- Be part of the DEAP Deakin University team and attend all meetings
- Organise, implement and evaluate all Deakin Years 6 to 9 activities
- In consultation with key stakeholders, oversee career information sessions, including guest speakers, mock interviews, Later Years Parent information sessions, taster days and career expos
- Work closely with the Careers, MIPS Coordinators, School Operations Manager, Senior Sub-School, Middle Sub-School, VASS, VET and VCE (VM) coordinators to ensure a smooth transition of students into Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and University, TAFE, Apprenticeship or sustainable Full Time Employment
- Oversee work experience and structured work placement programs
- Liaise with sub-school Leaders and other key stakeholders to implement effective course counselling processes and to effectively manage post-compulsory pathways for all students
- Liaise with key stakeholders and Principal Class Officers to develop appropriate programs for students at risk
- Liaise with industry, training organisations, TAFEs and Universities to ensure students receive appropriate pathway advice
- Expand on and maintain existing relationships between the College, other local educational agencies, local employers and community groups
- Work closely with the VET coordinator to source appropriate institutions and liaise with external VET providers to provide relevant courses for students
- Ensure the College complies with regulations to remain a registered training organization and integrate VET certification into College reporting and assessment processes
- Liaise with the VASS Officer, Data Manager, Senior Sub-School Leader and other key stakeholders to ensure accurate student pathway data is recorded and disseminated
- Ensure appropriate data is collected, analysed and reported through annual accountability and reporting processes
- Actively participate as a member of the Student Programs Team, Curriculum Team, Leadership Development Group, relevant Careers Association, LLEN, meetings
- Manage the Transitions/Pathways and College Publicity budgets
- Work closely with all Key stakeholders to ensure a Child Safe School Environment
- Engage with sub schools to establish and build programs to promote student engagement on their pathway through school (eg Resurgence)
- Liaise with SRC and other avenues for student voice, such as surveys, to evaluate the opportunities provided by the pathways team.
- Annually review curriculum provisions to support students' access to appropriate pathways (provide curriculum advice on potential subjects and the popular pathways of cohorts)
- Review Compass documentation and communication processes
- Regulation of course counsellors' work demands
- Carry out other duties as required by the Principal.

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE
To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
