In 2021, the Department established a new project team, MR5 Project, which is comprehensively reviewing the State’s franchise framework. The team provides options and constructs the future agreements for implementation following the expiry of the MR4 Franchise Agreements (Tram and Train). The Transition Team is part of the MR5 Project Team and services key internal DTP clients.

The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP), through Head, Transport for Victoria, has a contracting relationship with our major train operators, Metro Trains Melbourne, managed on behalf of the Victoria Government. In support of transitioning to the new Train Franchise Agreement the Transition Team lead delivery of the Contract Close out, Transition and DTP Readiness workstreams.
The Transition and Readiness Coordinator role is pivotal to the MR5 Project and will provide key support for the planning and delivery of critical path and concurrent activity by collaborating the Transition Team, MR5 Project Team, Transport Services and Train Franchisees.
Your people skills, sharp thinking and adaptability to navigate changing priorities will ensure key milestones are effectively monitored and achieved. A strong focus on internal and external stakeholder engagement and active communication will mean you play a hands-on role in managing schedules, preparing high-quality project documentation and providing exceptional administrative support. You will directly contribute to successful delivery of the train operation transition and embedding of the MR5 Train Franchise contract to business-as-usual operations.

You bring sound interpersonal capability and communication skills, taking time to understand others’ perspectives, motivations and needs, and tailoring communication to suit different audiences o support informed decision-making. You also apply practical project and program management skills, assisting in project activities in planning and monitoring project tasks such as maintaining schedules and updating progress reports. Your ability to accept changed priorities and respond quickly will be key to the transition and readiness project success.
