A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced Trade Manager to support Victorian companies to achieve their Indian and South Asian export goals. With a strong background in researching and identifying trade opportunities for Victoria across South Asia markets, this role requires proven ability to work across a range of industries, stakeholders, and scale of business to deliver initiatives that will strengthen business links and achieve targeted trade outcomes for the Victorian Government Trade & Investment (VGTI) network.
Whilst this role covers all sectors of trade, preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable experience in one of the following sectors: food and beverage, health, medical, beauty and wellness, digital technologies, sustainability and green economy. The ideal candidate will have proven economic development experience and a strong focus on delivering programs to support exports. Ideally, the Trade Manager will also have proven experience in sales and marketing, preferably in an internationally facing environment.
The role reports to Director Trade and Industry – South Asia and works collaboratively with colleagues with South Asian head office in Bengaluru and the Victorian Trade and Investment office in Mumbai. The countries of focus for the Victorian Government Trade and Investment offices in India are India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives. All staff in the Bengaluru and Mumbai offices are managed by the Commissioner for Victoria to South Asia.
About you
You will possess:
• Demonstrated experience and a record of achievement in supporting trade initiatives across a range of sectors and international business development, preferably including elements of market research and sales/client acquisition.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to use data and technology in a professional setting and support the development of presentations or advice for key stakeholders.
• Proven ability to design and manage events and/or marketing activities such as business conferences, trade promotions and high-level delegations including the ability to work as part of a high performing team and to strict timelines and high professional standards. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide excellent professional advice to the Victorian government, its client base and to represent Victorian government in professional forums.
• Commitment to integrity and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality across a network of clients and buyers with competing needs.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills in English and one or more regional languages, with accuracy and attention to detail.
The successful candidate for this locally engaged position will be responsible for all arrangements in relation to visa, relocation expenses (if applicable), their accommodation and day-to-day living expenses.
