About the role
The Team Leader Vicmap Topographic is a subject matter expert within Vicmap, responsible for the maintenance and quality assurance processes of products under the Vicmap Topographic Theme, ensuring they continue to meet the evolving needs of customers and stakeholders across the public sector.
The Team Leader Vicmap Topographic provides authoritative guidance on the technical integrity and usability of datasets within the Vicmap Topographic Theme, overseeing data creation, validation, archiving, and customer access via the Vicmap Topo Online website and Vicmap Viewer. A key focus of the role is
Team Leader Vicmap Topographic managing standards and ensuring compliance with specifications, including providing expert oversight of maintenance processes, ensuring products meet required specifications and stakeholder needs.
The role also leads the implementation and evolution of standards, ensuring continuous improvement of the data, mapping and service delivery, ensuring they are fit-for-purpose for emergency services, Government Departments and other stakeholders.
The Team Leader Vicmap Topographic works collaboratively with colleagues across Vicmap Spatial Services, the Data and Digital Division, and external partners, contributing to an integrated and customer-focused approach to spatial data delivery.

Position accountabilities
- Lead the development, quality assurance and maintenance of datasets under the Vicmap Topographic Theme
- Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of the Vicmap Topographic Mapping Services
- Oversee the distribution of Topographic Mapping products, including hard copy mapping through Stockists, Value Added Reseller networks and the Vicmap Topographic Maps Online and Vicmap Viewer products
- Oversee storage and archival operations for hard copy mapping, State Film Library and other Vicmap Topographic archives
- Oversee and develop others within the team to supports achievement of outcomes
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, vendors, users and stakeholders.
Qualifications and experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in spatial data management and mapping geospatial analysis/geoprocessing (mandatory)
- Knowledge and/or experience in the processes involved in producing, upgrading, and maintaining complex State-wide mapping products. (mandatory)
- Completion of relevant tertiary and/or industry qualifications as well as 3 to 5 years’ experience in managing spatial data (desirable)
- Experience using Vicmap Core Spatial Data Products and Services (desirable)
- Experience in interpreting spatial data standards and implementing data quality frameworks (desirable)
