Berwick Chase Primary School officially opened its doors at the start of the 2009 school year. Located in one of the fastest growing areas in Australia, the school has undergone significant and rapid growth.
The school consists of two permanent buildings that are complimented by a number of relocatable buildings that will increase as the student population grows. The current enrolment is 700 students.
The staff utilise flexible learning spaces to provide our students with a firm grounding in Numeracy and Literacy whilst developing the students thinking and social skills to their greatest potential. Staff work collaboratively to provide the students with a learning environment that encourages all children to develop to their highest level. To maximise learning opportunities, the school has a futures orientation with the aim of developing our children as productive local and global citizens.

We are seeking a motivated and supportive Teacher's Assistant to assist in the delivery of Auslan (Australian Sign Language) lessons to students. This role involves helping the classroom teacher with student engagement and classroom management during Auslan instruction. While knowledge of Auslan is preferred, it is not essential, we welcome applicants who are enthusiastic about learning and supporting Auslan education.
Applicants must have a valid Working With Children Check.
An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
A role at this range may include:
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Auslan teacher in preparing and delivering engaging lessons to students.
Support students during classroom activities, practice sessions, and assessments.
Help manage classroom resources and maintain an organized learning environment.
Encourage student participation and support diverse learning needs.
Participate in relevant training or professional development, particularly in Auslan.
Requirements:
A strong interest in language learning and student support.
Willingness to learn Auslan and assist in its delivery.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well under the direction of the teacher and as part of a team.
Working With Children Check.
Desirable:
Previous experience working with students in a classroom setting.
Familiarity with Auslan or a background in language support.
