Fawkner Primary School, located on Lorne Street, was established in 1988 following the merger of Fawkner and Fawkner East Primary Schools. Situated 12 kilometres north of Melbourne's CBD, we proudly serve families in the area between Major Road (Fawkner North) and Bakers Road (North Coburg). Our current student enrolment stands at 250.
We are a vibrant, multicultural school community, with Urdu being the most commonly spoken language at home. Many of our families have backgrounds from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and a wide range of other countries, enriching the cultural diversity of our school.
Fawkner Primary is well regarded within the local community, largely due to our strong focus on building positive and respectful relationships between staff, students, and families. All of our decision-making is driven by one key question: What is best for our students? Our programs and practices are a reflection of this student-centred approach.
We believe that students learn best when they feel happy, safe, and supported. We strive to create an environment where they are encouraged to be curious, challenged in their thinking, and actively engaged in their learning journey. Developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills is central to our approach.
Our school community values the calm and respectful atmosphere we maintain, providing a productive environment where all students are supported, engaged, and challenged to succeed.
Our facilities include four dedicated learning centres, a recently constructed building with six classrooms and modern student toilets, the BER building, two double portables, and a small original structure. A second new building, completed in 2023, houses our administration offices.
The school is situated on more than two hectares of land, offering a safe and stimulating outdoor environment with both active and quiet play areas for students to enjoy.
We deliver comprehensive literacy and numeracy programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of our learners. Programs such as Little Learners Love Literacy, Soundwaves, and other evidence-based approaches ensure students have access to a modern and rigorous curriculum.
Our specialist programs include STEM, Italian, Physical Education, and The Arts. In addition, we offer a swimming program, school-based sports, and a wide range of extracurricular activities to provide students with rich and varied experiences.
Personal development is a key priority. Our students take part in programs such as Buddies, Cyberbullying Prevention, and Respectful Relationships, alongside other Department of Education initiatives. We are fortunate to have a supportive school community that values and contributes to the positive culture we have built.
Preparing students for life in the 21st century is a major focus. Our ICT-rich curriculum encourages digital fluency and includes experiences such as STEM challenges, coding, and robotics to build future-ready skills.
We are always looking for dedicated, enthusiastic, and motivated educators to join our thriving and supportive school community.
