The opportunity
Fairhills High School is seeking an accomplished and collaborative instructional leader to drive whole-school improvement in STEM and numeracy. The successful applicant will combine strategic leadership with exemplary classroom practice, building staff capability and expanding authentic learning opportunities for students across Years 7 to 12.

A strong platform for STEM learning
Fairhills offers outstanding facilities and partnerships that provide a strong foundation for the next phase of STEM development. At the centre of this work is our state-of-the-art STEM Learning Centre, a purpose-designed environment for collaborative, practical and project-based learning. Students and staff also benefit from access to the KIOSC STEM Centre at Swinburne University's Wantirna campus.
STEM is embedded within the learning experience at Fairhills. Selected students enter the STEM Academy from Year 7, undertaking enrichment and extension in Mathematics and STEM. Across Years 7 to 10, students engage in programs including VEX Robotics, coding and the Hydrogen Grand Prix, with opportunities to participate in competitions at state, national and global levels. The successful applicant will build on these strengths and help ensure our facilities, programs and partnerships have maximum impact on student learning, aspiration and future pathways.
Role purpose
The STEM and Numeracy Leader will provide strategic and instructional leadership across the school. The position will strengthen curriculum and pedagogy, lead improvement in numeracy growth and attainment, develop teacher capability and extend partnerships that create authentic STEM learning and pathways for students. As a member of the School Improvement Team, the leader will contribute to the implementation and evaluation of whole-school improvement priorities.

Leading Teachers are highly skilled classroom practitioners who undertake leadership responsibilities while maintaining a teaching role. They improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce and are responsible for significant educational outcomes. Their work includes modelling exemplary practice, leading improvement initiatives, supporting professional learning and building the capacity of colleagues.
The STEM and Numeracy Leader may also undertake other duties as negotiated with the Principal to support school priorities.

Curriculum
Fairhills High School offers a documented, guaranteed and viable curriculum aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.
Students in Years 7 and 8 participate in a core curriculum across eight learning areas and also take part in our instrumental music program.
STEM is a key focus across the school. From Year 7, selected students can join the STEM Academy, a specialised program that extends learners with a passion and aptitude for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. All students from Years 7 to 10 have the opportunity to engage in high-quality STEM initiatives including VEX Robotics and the Hydrogen Grand Prix, where our students have achieved outstanding results.
In Years 9 and 10, students pursue their passions through our Specialism Program, selecting three electives per semester to deepen their learning in areas of personal interest.
Students in Years 7 to 9 also engage in targeted self-development programs that support their personal growth, wellbeing and transition to senior years.
High-achieving Year 10 students may accelerate into Early Start VCE subjects. In Years 11 and 12, the school offers a broad range of VCE units and VET programs that cater to diverse interests, strengths and future pathways.
