The Speech Pathologist will work as an integral member of Wimba Primary School's Student Engagement and Wellbeing Team. The role provides specialist support to strengthen students' speech, language and communication skills so they can access learning, express their needs, build relationships and participate confidently in school life.
Working under the direction of the Assistant Principal - Student Wellbeing and Engagement and the Leadership Team, the Speech Pathologist will collaborate closely with teachers, education support staff, families and other professionals.
The position will contribute to the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), providing universal, targeted and intensive support according to identified student need while keeping students connected to their classroom, peers and high-quality teaching.
Assessment, intervention and student support
The Speech Pathologist will assess students with identified or emerging speech, language and communication needs using appropriate formal and informal assessment, observation, student voice and consultation. They will clearly explain findings, develop practical and evidence-informed recommendations, and plan, deliver and review individual or small-group interventions. Student progress will be monitored regularly so strategies and supports can be adjusted in response to evidence and student outcomes.
Inclusive classroom practice and staff capability
The role will work alongside teachers and education support staff to embed communication-supportive practice within everyday teaching and learning. This will include consultation, modelling, coaching and feedback, as well as support with visual tools, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), reasonable adjustments and accessible classroom routines. The Speech Pathologist will also contribute to professional learning that builds staff knowledge and confidence in responding to diverse communication needs.
Collaboration and family engagement
The Speech Pathologist will contribute to Student Support Group meetings, Individual Education Plans, transition planning and multidisciplinary case discussions as required. They will communicate with students and families in a clear, respectful and accessible manner, and liaise with external speech pathologists, allied health professionals, Student Support Services and relevant agencies to support coordinated and purposeful service provision.
Whole-school inclusion and improvement

This includes supporting the effective use of communication resources and AAC systems, contributing to Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports, and promoting approaches that build student agency and independence rather than unnecessary reliance on adult assistance.
Professional practice and documentation
The Speech Pathologist will maintain accurate, timely and confidential assessment records, intervention plans, progress notes and records of consultation. All work will be undertaken within the scope of speech pathology practice and in accordance with professional and ethical standards, evidence-based practice, school policies and relevant legislative requirements.
