The speech pathologist provides individual support to evaluate, design, deliver, and monitor communication strategies for students identified as needing support. They work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to support the communication for interacting and exchanging information, for a range of purposes across different contexts.
The successful applicant will be an experienced speech pathologist who will carry out their duties and responsibilities, relative to the Speech Pathology Scope of Practice in Australia and Code of Ethics, with a high level of autonomy and with minimal reliance on professional supervision. The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and implementation of professional support programs within an educational environment, including guidance to other professional staff.
As an education support class position, this role supports the educational services being provided to students but will not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.

Provide speech pathology supports including screening, assessment, program development, intervention monitoring, and review in the areas of communication in line with relevant legislative, professional and ethical requirements.
Establish and maintain person centred, family friendly support services to improve student communication and learning.
Work with other professionals to undertake advanced speech pathology supports and inclusion interventions that support students and schools.
Assist the coordination of speech pathology services within a multi-disciplinary team.
Support teachers and key staff in the development of educational programs, particularly in respect to students with additional needs.
Support the provision of professional advice in relation to issues involving student communication.
Collaborate within the multidisciplinary team in respect to complex cases.
Liaise with community service organisations and external health professionals regarding the support needs for students.
Individuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfil the specific requirement of the position.
Applicants must hold a bachelor or post graduate degree in speech pathology.
Maintain accreditation as a speech pathologist.
Is a member or has eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia.

A fulltime Education Support employee (48/52) is entitled to 152 hours (20 days) annual leave and 228 hours (30 days) additional paid leave in respect of each calendar year. Part time employees receive annual leave entitlements on a pro rata basis, calculated according to the time fraction worked each calendar year. Education Support employees are expected to use annual leave entitlements during school vacation periods, unless otherwise approved. Public Holidays that fall during a period of additional paid leave are not regarded as part of that leave.
