The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) is a justice service that resolves a wide range of disputes for the Victorian community, including residential tenancies, planning and environment disputes, consumer and building matters, guardianship and administration, professional regulation and human rights. About the Role
The Specialist Registrar plays a pivotal role in supporting the effective management and resolution of complex matters within VCAT's People's Rights and Responsibilities Division (PRRD). Working closely with Members, Practice Leads and Registry staff, you will provide expert legal, procedural and case management advice, ensuring matters are appropriately triaged, managed and progressed through the Tribunal. The role combines specialist legal expertise with delegated registrar powers to support efficient case management and improve access to justice. The role requires strong analytical skills, sound judgement and the ability to navigate complex legal and procedural issues. You will assess applications, identify key risks and issues, prepare briefs for Members, and provide advice on case progression pathways to support informed decision-making and hearing readiness. You will also contribute to VCAT's ongoing transformation by leveraging digital case management systems, operational data and technology-enabled processes to improve workflows, enhance service delivery and support continuous improvement.Duties will include:
