THE ROLE
The Solicitor role will work closely with the Senior Solicitor, Principal Solicitor and Special Advisor in providing legal advice to the department. This position will be responsible for providing high quality legal and legislative advice and services on a broad range of matters across the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (the department), with a primary focus on implementation of the child safety reforms.
The team will work with the relevant areas within the department to support the implementation of child safety reforms. This may include assisting with passage of legislative amendments, developing regulations, supporting implementation of any legislative changes by providing advice and preparing instruments and other documents to support machinery of government changes, information-sharing arrangements, and other implementation activity.
Candidates that have experience in either legislation or statutory interpretation within government are encouraged to apply. Due to the nature of the work, there may be some capacity to direct work to specific team members based on their relevant experience. Subject to workload and the needs of the unit the role may also be required to to support the broader Public Law, Litigation and Inquiries team.
