About the role
The Service Desk Operator (Ancillary Assistant Team Leader) plays a pivotal role in coordinating high-quality non-clinical services across University Hospital Geelong. Acting as both a team leader and an active member of the ancillary workforce, the role oversees the allocation and prioritisation of tasks through the CARPS digital task-management system to ensure timely, accurate and efficient service delivery. Supporting key areas including cleaning and housekeeping, patient transport and couriering, restocking and clinical support, this position works closely with nursing and clinical teams to maintain safe, clean and well-functioning patient care environments. Strong communication, situational awareness and problem-solving skills are essential to effectively manage resources in a fast-paced hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and coordinate task allocation within the CARPS digital task-management system, ensuring timely and accurate distribution based on staff skills and operational needs.
Manage Service Desk calls and provide day-to-day IT support for CARPS hardware, software, and systems.
Supervise and support Environmental Services staff, including task delegation, break allocation in line with the Enterprise Agreement, and reporting of equipment faults or hazards.
Contribute to staff performance management, including supporting appraisals and assisting with development.
Participate in onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training of new and existing team members.
Foster effective communication within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to team meetings, service improvements, and duties aligned with PS21 and PS25 Position Descriptions

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with sound judgement and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Excellent time management, organisational skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
Current Food Handlers Certificate.
