An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).

An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.
At Viewbank College the role of Senior Years Assistant includes:
Customer Service
Provide excellent customer service to Senior School staff, Senior School students and visitors to the College for Senior School purposes.
Provide straightforward advice and/or handling of customer/supplier/visitor/staff enquiries, over the phone or in person.
Communicate effectively and positively with members of the Senior School community including students, staff and parents/carers.
Provide support or care to students where necessary and communicate with relevant stakeholders ¿ staff and parents/carers.
Under direction of the Business Manager and Senior School Leaders, coordinate, organise and determine work priorities within the Senior School area to ensure the efficient operation to meet accountability requirements according to Department of Education (DE) Procedures and Guidelines and agreed College Procedures.
This is a key role and you will be responsible and accountable for overseeing all Senior School (Y10-12) attendance.
The Senior Years Student Support Assistant is responsible for accurate attendance data.
Ensure all student attendances are processed accurately using Compass and inaccuracies are followed up so that the Senior School Leaders are constantly updated.
Student attendance data is filed in a timely and secure manner according to DE Control Procedures and Guidelines and agreed College Procedures, ensure confidentiality of records is maintained at all times.
Undertake necessary training annually.
Adhere to stated DE policies and procedures relating to VASS guidelines.
Coordinate and be responsible for the entry of VASS data as directed by the Senior School Leaders who manage these programs.
The responsibilities of the Senior Years Assistant include:
Under the direction of the Business Manager, Principal Team and Senior School Leaders, all tasks need to be followed in accordance with our College Processes in a timely manner.
Student Attendance
This is a key role. The Senior Years Student Support Assistant is responsible for accurate attendance data:
Liaise with teachers regarding accuracy of student attendance records eg. Class rolls
Manage all Senior School students signing in and out (eg. medical appointments, study periods)
Generate, correct, edit and forward Daily attendance reports to House Leaders for action
All actions given in relation to attendance are recorded on Compass via Chronicle (late warnings, whole day absences)

This key role ensures accurate data entry for VASS

VIEWBANK COLLEGE
With a student enrolment of approximately 1450 and located on 5.4 hectares in the City of Banyule, Viewbank College provides outstanding educational opportunities to families in Rosanna, Heidelberg, Viewbank and surrounding suburbs. The College is academically focused and has a high level of participation in other curriculum areas such as Sport, Music and the Visual & Performing Arts.
