We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Strategic Planner to join the Housing, Building and Land Delivery (HBLD) group of the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).
This role leads and manages the preparation and review of strategic land use plans—including Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs), Structure Plans, Activity Centre Plans, and Development Plans—for both established and growth areas across metropolitan Melbourne. It supports the implementation of the VPA's planning objectives while also contributing to projects that enhance planning processes and outcomes.
A key focus of the role is delivering work under the Capacity Review Program and the Streamlining Program. This includes reviewing PSPs, coordinating planning scheme amendments, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting initiatives to reduce PSP timeframes and costs without compromising policy or strategic intent.
The role operates in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment, drawing on technical expertise across strategic and statutory planning, infrastructure, sustainability, transport, and community services. It involves managing complex projects, coordinating input from councils and government agencies, and ensuring stakeholder feedback is integrated into planning solutions.
Key responsibilities include project management, stakeholder engagement, preparation of briefings and presentations, procurement and oversight of technical advice, and communicating complex planning concepts clearly. The role supports the Manager Strategic Planning and contributes to the broader goals of the VPA by helping deliver more streamlined, efficient, and effective planning outcomes.
