About the role:
Reporting to the Specialist Privacy Lead, the Senior Solicitor works within the Privacy Team which plays a central role in supporting the department to protect clients' privacy and support the sharing of information to help make Victorian health care safer and better for all patients.
The Senior Solicitor will support the Specialist Privacy Lead to provide expert policy and legal advice to Ministers, the Secretary, the Department of Health and relevant Administrative Offices on a range of privacy and information sharing issues. It will also provide oversight of the management of privacy breaches in operational divisions, identify and monitor emerging privacy related risks and provide privacy specific training to departmental staff.
The successful applicant will have experience in providing legal and policy advice in relation to compliance with privacy laws and regulations including the conduct of Privacy Impact Assessments.

We are looking for someone who can:
Provide authoritative advice on legal and policy issues, and prepare briefings and correspondence reflecting a high level of knowledge, expertise and risk analysis.
Demonstrates ability to draft, review and negotiate a broad variety of contracts and legal documentation.
Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively communicate and negotiate sensitive legal issues with a wide range of clients, colleagues and stakeholders in a constructive and purposeful way.
Speciaised experience in privacy and information sharing and statutory interpretation.
Demonstrate the ability to interpret relevant legislation and policies, review and analyse material and strong advisory skills.
Support the delivery of a variety of privacy and information sharing projects to support continuous improvement and positive outcomes for clients, health services and providers whilst understanding the need to minimise potential risks to clients and the reputation of the Department and Government, in a heightened privacy environment. These projects involve a range of complex stakeholders across the department and/or multi-agencies, requiring effective negotiation and influence.
Qualifications / Specialist Expertise
Minimum of 4 years' post admission experience is preferable but not essential.
Experience advising in relation to the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic) and drafting privacy impact assessments in relation to technology-based agile project management will be highly regarded.
