About the Division
The Security and Emergency Management Division's purpose is to lead security and emergency management functions for the Department and lead and support educational communities to be physically and psychologically safe through the provision of expert advice and support services.
About the Unit
The Security Unit operates the department's 24/7 Incident Support and Operations Centre responding to alarm and CCTV activations in schools and actioning work orders for the installation and maintenance of the alarm system.
About the role – Ongoing - Full-time
As a Senior Security Advisor, you will conduct risk and threat assessments, manage complex security incidents impacting upon schools, corporate offices and ministerial suites, and evaluate security infrastructure within the Department of Education. Additionally, you will develop sound security risk management strategies during the early design phase of VSBA projects and oversee the design and specification of security systems. Your responsibilities will include supervising, training, coaching and mentoring more junior Security Advisors, as well as providing advice to the Security Unit manager.
The role may be required to work shift work and be available outside of business hours to support the department and whole of government emergency management operations. This is anticipated to occur infrequently at times of significant emergencies.
Key Duties
- Manage complex security incidents impacting upon schools, corporate offices, and ministerial suites
- Undertake risk and threat assessments of often complex security issues and provide authoritive and timely advice to schools and senior corporate staff
- Attend schools, corporate offices and ministerial suites and assess security infrastructure and procedures
- Prepare and implement security plans and procedures for schools, corporate offices and ministerial suites
- Provide advice to School Principals and DE corporate staff on security and emergency mangement issues
- Supervise, train, coach and mentor more junior Security Advisors
- Develop sound security risk management strategies in the early design phase for buidling and modernisation projects conducted by the Victorian School Building Authority
- Manage the design and specification of security systems for schools and othe DE premises. This will include the use of intruder detection systems, access control, CCTV, and other security elements
- Manage and coordinate the provision of security contractor services
- Provide strategic advice and timely support to the Manager Security Unit
- Other related tasks as directed by the Manager Security Unit
Requirements
- This position will involve regular travel within Victoria.
- Essential: Curren t Working with Children Check
- Essential: Victorian Driver's License
- Desirable: Relevant tertiary qualification in any field
