The Senior Scientist is responsible for assisting the strategic development and application of biodiversity decision-support tools and providing analysis functions within these tools to support the conservation of Victoria’s biodiversity.
The role will assist evolving teams of science and policy experts in the strategic development of decision support tools used in the contexts of impact assessment, cost-effective investment, and reporting on outcomes for biodiversity. These tools integrate a range of information to estimate potential impacts and management outcomes across species, actions and locations, and apply systematic conservation planning principles to optimise biodiversity outcomes.
The role requires strong ecological and quantitative knowledge and an ability to apply problem-solving skills to a wide range of conservation problems. It requires a demonstrated capability to analyse, interpret and explain biodiversity conservation needs, including complex spatial ecological datasets and quantitative data. The position will build and maintain effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, with an emphasis on communication of complex ideas and analyses and managing projects at the science-policy interface.

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available.
