About the Business Unit:
Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services provides legal, policy, integrity and assurance expertise to the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) and Justice Ministers. Integrity and Reviews provides integrity and assurance expertise and the DJCS staff supporting the operation of the Post Sentence Authority and the Inspector-General for Emergency Management. The Justice Assurance and Review Office (JARO) assists the Secretary to ensure that adult prisons and youth justice facilities are safe, secure and humane. It provides high-quality advice on areas of risk and opportunities for improvement in corrections and youth justice. JARO's key activities include:
- reviewing all deaths in adult prisons and youth justice facilities
- reviewing select deaths of offenders in the community
- assessing and reviewing serious and significant incidents such as assaults, riots and escapes from custody
- conducting thematic reviews and targeted analysis of issues posing systemic risks
- Undertaking assessments and lead complex review activities, including but not limited to death reviews, reviews of major incidents in the youth justice and corrections systems, and thematic reviews.
- Contribuing to high-quality reports, briefings, and correspondence on the findings of assessments, complex deaths, incidents, and thematic reviews.
- monitoring and assessing serious incidents that affect the performance of the systems, including youth justice precincts, youth justice community services, prisons, Community Correctional Services and prisoner transportation
- administering the Independent Prison Visitor Scheme on behalf of the Minister for Corrections.
About the Role:
The Senior Review Officer is responsible for assessing complex reviews and presenting high-quality, authoritative, and evidence-based findings to senior audiences to drive service delivery improvements within deadlines.
Some of your duties will include:
- Undertaking assessments and lead complex review activities, including but not limited to death reviews, reviews of major incidents in the youth justice and corrections systems, and thematic reviews
- Preparing timely, high-quality reports, briefings, and correspondence on the findings of assessments, complex deaths, incidents, and thematic reviews
- Adopting a risk-based approach, analysing complex data and information to identify emerging issues and trends and provide innovative and proactive recommendations to influence and strengthen the operation, safety, security and wellbeing of the correctional and youth justice systems.

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills in analytical report writing and briefing
- The ability to take wider business context into account within the business unit when considering options to resolve issues, remaining able to identify recurring problems and prevents future recurrence by integrating solutions into work process
- The ability to identify issues in common for one or more clients or stakeholders and using them to build mutually beneficial partnerships while identifying and responding to stakeholder's underlying needs.
