The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Project Manager to provide a critical role within Corrections Victoria, Office of the Commissioner.
About the Business Unit
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) provides a range of government programs and services which focus on improving community safety, victim services, regulatory services and crime prevention, and building strong collaboration across the justice system.
Corrections Victoria (CV) is part of the Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group in the DJCS. CV is responsible for Victoria's adult custodial corrections system including eleven public prisons (two with Annexes), three privately operated prisons, one transition centre, a community residential facility, and post-sentence accommodation for people subject to detention or supervision orders. Key activity streams in CV align with key responsibilities of Custodial Operations (including contract and asset management), Offender Services, Sentence Management, and Security and Intelligence. In addition, the Commissioner is supported by a small team that provides strategic advice on system-wide or emerging issues. Corrections Victoria's vision is for Safer Prisons, Safer People and Safer Communities.
Reporting directly to the Commissioner, the Senior Project Manager is a key member of the Office of Commissioner and works closely alongside the CV Executive. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing a diverse range of organisational portfolios and priorities that support Corrections Victoria's strategic objectives.
About the Role
Operating in a complex, fast paced and dynamic environment, the Senior Project Manager must demonstrate flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to balance competing priorities. Strong stakeholder engagement, excellent organisational skills, and the capacity to perform under pressure are essential to success in this role. The position requires maintaining a strong understanding of internal and external issues and risks, ensuring timely and accurate responses to emerging priorities.
The role is diverse in scope covering coordination of corporate functions, high level advice on projects/issues and leads projects on an as needs basis and as determined by Corrections Victoria's priorities. It encompasses strategic oversight and coordination across multiple critical portfolios including but not limited to workforce planning, internal and external stakeholder engagement, coordination of corporate functions and is responsible for high level operational and strategic projects.
