The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Senior Prison Officer – Prison Intelligence Unit, to provide a critical role within Dame Phyllis Frost Centre.
About the Business Unit
The Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group, comprising Corrections Victoria (CV), Justice Health and Justice Services, plays an integral role in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.
CV is responsible for the implementation of policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
CV also sets strategy, policy and standards for the management of the state's system of correctional facilities whilst also developing programs for the management and rehabilitation of prisoners and the community-based supervision of offenders.
As part of the CJS group, the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) is a 694-bed maximum-security facility for female offenders located within the West Metropolitan Area, Department of Justice and Community Safety.
Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service
Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service (CVIS) is the overarching intelligence service for Corrections Victoria and its stakeholders. Presently the CVIS comprises the primary intelligence unit known as the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit (CVIU) and intelligence officers located at the twelve public and two private prison facilities in Victoria.
About the Role
The position assists prison management by providing information to assist in decision making. The position actively contributes to maintaining the security, good order and management of prison facilities by gathering, recording, analysing and disseminating information in order to prevent prisoner escapes, prevent the introduction and usage of contraband within prisons, and to identify possible prisoner incidents/unrest.
Senior Prison Officers also prepare prisoner assessments and provide advice and recommendation to prison-based committees and participate in programs and a variety of prisoner and prison activities. They also contribute to the training of prison officer staff to facilitate learning and improve professional skills.
Senior Prison Officers will also contribute to the maintenance and implementation of improved work processes and systems and may be required to conduct some statistical analysis.
It is a requirement of this position to work weekends and public holidays, which will be remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Determination.
