The Role
The Senior Policy Officer plays a key role in developing, implementing and managing policies that contribute to the department's objectives. This role is responsible for researching and analysing complex policy issues, providing strategic and evidence-based advice, and supporting policy implementation and evaluation. With a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and strategic planning, the role contributes to system-wide reforms, particularly in education, skills and economic development. The position is focused on developing innovative policy advice and initiatives that support inclusive, accessible and high-quality learning opportunities for adult learners, especially those facing barriers to education and employment.
Main accountabilities
The Team
The position of Senior Policy Officer forms part of the Adult, Community and Further Education, Pathways and Workforce Branch within the Skills and TAFE Group.
The Branch works across the skills ecosystem to improve pathways for adult learners into further education and employment. It leads strategy, investment and performance monitoring for pre-accredited training in Victoria and provides expert advice across the Skills and TAFE portfolio, collaborating closely with government, industry and education partners.
About You
You have demonstrated experience in policy design and development, with the ability to formulate and communicate clear, evidence-based policy options and recommendations. You can define problems, develop strong policy narratives and contribute to business cases that support informed decision-making. You bring sound project delivery skills, including establishing governance arrangements, managing risks and monitoring progress to achieve successful outcomes in complex policy environments.
