About the role:
The VCAA is a statutory body responsible to the Victorian Minister for Education, serving both government and non-government schools. In this context, the VCAA is responsible for developing high-quality curriculum and assessment products and services. The VCAA is a registered foundational and senior secondary awarding body with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA).
As part of its functions, the VCAA develops policies, criteria and standards for: curriculum, assessments and courses for school-aged students; learning, development and assessments which relate to early childhood.
The VCAA develops strong relationships with the government, Independent and Catholic school sector, other national and interstate curriculum authorities, academics in the field, teacher/subject associations and, most importantly, with Victorian educators.
All VCAA employees are expected to perform their duties in accordance with relevant legislation, governance requirements, policies and procedures, safety obligations, the Code of Conduct for Victorian public sector employees, and the Victorian Public Sector Values. All roles are expected to work collaboratively across teams and functions, build productive relationships, and contribute to shared organisational outcomes.
Two exciting opportunity exists to join the Research and Policy Unit in the Curriculum Division in a fixed term full-time Senior Policy Officer position.
• Salary: $116,413 - $140,849 (Plus Superannuation of 12%)
• Fixed term: 19/10/2026 till 30/06/2029
• Usual hours of work: Full time (flexible work conditions may be available)
• Usual work location: East Melbourne
Attributes:
You will have demonstrated experience in policy development and analysis, ideally within a government or public sector context, experience in preparing high-quality policy documents, strategic briefings, and reports for senior executive and ministerial audiences. You are driven, enthusiastic and set high standards in your work performance. You are a highly organised and professional person, capable of managing projects with numerous contributors and stakeholders to firm deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential: Tertiary qualification in education, policy, or other relevant area; Demonstrated success and experience in education, research, and policy analysis.
About the Division:
The Research and Policy Unit provides high-quality policy project and research services to the Curriculum Policy and Strategy Branch and Curriculum Division. Developing and delivering business and strategic priorities of the Division and wider VCAA, the Research and Policy Unit provides expert assistance and capacity to deliver on both priority projects and sustained project and policy delivery. Members of this team may be embedded in other teams for the purpose of delivering specific projects or work tasks and may operate across multiple teams and projects.
