The Economic Policy and State Productivity Group works to support better economic awareness for Victoria by supporting the government to achieve its objectives related to economic development, regional and local government outcomes, government services, international engagement, transport infrastructure, planning, energy, agriculture, resources and the environment. The group works across government by collaborating with relevant departments and agencies on policy and project development.
The Economic Strategy Branch plays a critical role in driving the government’s economic reform agenda. It contributes to the development of innovative and impactful economic policies that create a more prosperous and inclusive Victoria. The branch works flexibly, collaboratively and strives to create a motivated and positive workplace.
The Branch is responsible for:
Providing authoritative strategic advice to the Premier and DPC senior executives across high-profile economic policy areas - including taxation, regulation, productivity, housing, consumer affairs, and government services - while monitoring economic conditions and delivering data-driven analysis to inform decision-making.
Leading the development and implementation of priority reform initiatives, including strengthening Victoria’s building system to ensure safe, high-quality housing and enhanced consumer protections, and advancing policies that boost productivity, public sector efficiency, and fiscal capacity.
Coordinating DPC’s advice on the annual State Budget, supporting whole-of-government budget reforms and fiscal strategy development, and delivering strategic oversight, forward planning, and secretariat support to Cabinet and Interdepartmental Committees.
About the role
The Economic Strategy Branch is seeking a talented and dynamic Senior Policy Analyst. You will play a critical role preparing high-quality policy advice across a range of economic issues and driving delivery of priority government reforms.
We encourage applications from individuals with a broad range of experience who possess leadership skills, strong conceptual and analytical skills and a proven ability to provide authoritative policy advice in time-pressure environment. The position requires flexibility to respond to rapid changes in priorities, attention to detail, curiosity, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A tertiary qualification or professional experience in economics is not essential to apply for the position.
This is a Fixed term, full-time position for 2 years.
