The Senior Policy Analyst role plays a key part in driving sustainable health system funding. This role is responsible for supporting the strategic development and delivery of the annual health service budgets and funding submission. The position provides expert advice on health funding impacts and ensures alignment with broader fiscal policy objectives. This includes implementation of key health funding policies and strategies that drive financial sustainability and controls, setting funding standards, and assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of the allocation of available resources.

The Department of Health is seeking a highly motivated Senior Policy Analyst to play a key role in shaping the future of health funding strategy and policy. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to evidence-based policy design that supports equitable, effective, and sustainable health outcomes across the sector.
As a Senior Policy Analyst, you will provide expert advice, formulate and communicate policy options, and assess the implications of proposed reforms. You will work across government and with key stakeholders to develop strategic policy responses that address complex health system challenges.
You will demonstrate strong policy and analytical skills, the ability to interpret and synthesise complex information, and the insight to identify links between policy initiatives and broader system priorities. Your critical thinking and problem-solving skills will enable you to develop innovative, practical solutions that deliver tangible results.
Success in this role requires exceptional communication skills and the capacity to convey ideas clearly and persuasively, even on sensitive or complex issues. You will have strong organisational awareness, understanding the environment in which the Department operates, and will coordinate and guide teams to deliver high-quality work within agreed timeframes.
A collaborative mindset is essential—you will foster partnerships, encourage in formation sharing, and promote a culture of teamwork to achieve shared outcomes. Strong financial and budget management skills are also important, with the ability to analyse and present data effectively to support sound decision-making.
