About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity to progress your career and obtain valuable experience working as a Senior Police Lawyer within Victoria Police, Counter Terrorism Legal Unit (CTLU). CTLU is part of the Specialist Legal Branch and operates as a legal practice who specialise in Counter Terrorism (CT) related law and legal policy. CTLU's primary function is to support the Counter Terrorism Command (CTC) to provide an effective response to terrorism incidents through the application of the Terrorism (Community Protection) Act 2003 and other Acts. As a member of our team, you will be instrumental in legally supporting operational police execute their functions in keeping Victorian's safe from terrorist incidents.
No two days are ever the same at the CTLU—by joining our small team (which consists of both sworn and VPS lawyers), you'll be able to hone your skills in a supportive environment in a variety of legal work which will include: the provision of expert legal advice to members of CTC; support and training to CTC in response to counter terrorism operations and in post incident settings; driving legislative reform relating to counter terrorism and related policy implementation; supporting the delivery of services by Victoria for the High-Risk Terrorist Offender Regime under Division 105A of the Commonwealth Criminal Code; as well as other various legal services that fall outside of the Counter Terrorism environment and within the broader legal services department.
