Network Design and Integration delivers transport priorities through the planning, development and maintenance of an integrated pipeline of projects and strategic initiatives that provide safe, efficient and sustainable outcomes to all Victorians.
Public Transport Ticketing division
The Public Transport Ticketing (PTT) System will ensure Victoria has a ticketing system that is fit for purpose for 15 years and beyond to meet customers’ expectations and the challenges of the transport network, while facilitating the efficient collection of fare revenues and unlocking potential benefits. The PTT system will replace the existing myki system with Account Based Ticketing (ABT). ABT will enable more ways to pay for travel and simplify how Operations implement fare and policy changes quickly. The PTT system will be rolled out progressively through new validators, contactless payments and account functionality. Both myki smartcards and contactless payments systems will operate simultaneously for at least 2 years.
About the role
These are 2 x Full TIME FIXED TERM positions until 30/06/2027
The operations workstream is accountable for the operation and maintenance of myki ticketing products and services that customers use to pay and travel. These services range from free travel events, fare changes, new product offerings, smart card forecasting, contactless payments, channel management and installation of new validators on transport modes. The ticketing technology is generally outsourced through a main contractor with governance and oversight a primary responsible area. Governance is applied through working groups, processes and procedures that align to the ITIL framework.
Reporting to the ABT Operations Readiness Manager the Senior Open Payment Ticketing Specialist provides direction and guidance to the main contractor for all Open payment ticketing product and services functions including card schemes, OEM digital wallets, wearables, tokens, physical smart cards across the PTT network.
The position builds strong working relationships with policy, customer, data and digital teams, vendors plus senior management and key operational contacts.

The role requires a strategic individual with deep expertise in mobility and open payment systems, capable of driving innovation across complex digital, contractual, and stakeholder environments. The ideal candidate will excel in systems thinking, stakeholder management, and customer-focused communication to deliver high-performing, user-centric ticketing solutions.
Position accountabilities
– Optimises ticketing payment products and services from ideas and helps to develop improvements based on industry experience through dialogue with customers teams, operational reporting insights and mobility payment industries.
– Increases take up of existing Ticketing payment products and services to developing new briefs, and solutions which advance Operational objectives to rationalise and retire closed loop products and services.
– Co-Chairs weekly mobility payment working group to efficiently govern a broad range of Open payment disciplines with the contractor.
– Contributes to impact assessment of ticketing payment changes, disruptions, and correspondence.
– Builds strong working relationships with policy, customer, data and digital, and contractors.
Qualifications and experience
Mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience working in a project within the public and / or private sectors using good practice project methodologies.
- Payment experience in Mass Transportation, Banking or Retail sectors.
- Outsourcing experience, either directly or overseeing activities of a contractor
Desirable:
- Mass transit experience, within operations, policy, product, or other similar discipline.
- Data analytics experience in a complex, data-intensive sector.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in business management or information technology
Other position-specific requirements
This position may require network visits to assess ticketing products and services that are changing, experiencing issues or to gather information for a management brief.
