ABOUT THE POSITION:
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to Museums Victoria's mission by supporting the Media and Communications team in delivering high-impact public relations and communications strategies. Working under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Media and Communications, the position focuses on promoting Museums Victoria's exhibitions, programs, events, and the groundbreaking work of the Museums Victoria Research Institute. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and enhancing the public image and reputation of the organization, driving visitation, and increasing public engagement through strategic campaigns and activations across a diverse media landscape.
Some of the key duties include:
- Develop and implement strategic media and communications campaigns to enhance awareness of Museums Victoria's exhibitions, Research Institute, and broader activities across local, national, and international markets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media, stakeholders, and internal teams to support communications objectives and advocacy efforts.
- Research, develop and edit a range of media content, including press releases, media kits, internal briefings, speeches, and multimedia assets (photo and video).
- Coordinate and support media engagement activities such as media calls, previews, outside broadcasts, familiarisations, and stakeholder events.
- Contribute to campaign evaluation through meaningful post-campaign reporting and insights.
- Assist in developing communications for issues and crisis management, including key messaging, FAQs, and briefing documents, in collaboration with internal teams and executive leadership.
- Support the delivery of team and departmental goals while fostering a positive, collaborative work culture.
- Manage media campaign and event budgets, providing support in the development of project business cases.
- Ensure compliance with Museums Victoria policies, procedures, and relevant legislation and regulations.
The successful applicant will have:
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining strong media and stakeholder relationships, with a solid understanding of the evolving media landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to secure proactive media coverage through the development and pitching of compelling story ideas.
- Experience in strategizing, developing and executing integrated PR campaigns.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a creative approach to storytelling and the ability to translate complex information into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Sound judgement and discretion in handling culturally or politically sensitive material, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Familiarity with risk management.
- Strong ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, or a related field, with 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred.

THER INFORMATION
This is a VPS3.2, Full-Time, Fixed Term position until 1 Februaury 2027. The salary offered is $91,971 base of grade + 12% superannuation.
The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).
