The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Senior Legal Adviser, Public Law and Litigation, to provide a critical role within Office of the General Counsel.
About the Business Unit
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is responsible for providing in-house legal services across the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) and to the Attorney-General, as First Law Officer.
The Public Law and Litigation team within OGC leads the delivery of legal services on constitutional, administrative and public law issues, and litigation faced by DJCS and Ministers, including managing the conduct and coordination of high-profile disputes and inquiries on behalf of the State.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be a member of this team and must possess a proven ability to provide sophisticated, authoritative, concise, solutions-focused advice on complex legal and policy matters arising in the operation of government in public law and litigation.
The candidate will also play a vital role in supporting the legal functions relating to the Tobacco Regulation Project. Areas of legal support will include advisory support, overseeing internal reviews, managing VCAT matters and enforcement action against unlicensed operators.
