The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About the role
Senior Inspectors conduct a range of compliance monitoring activities and inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act, and other legislation administered by CAV. These inspections will typically include leading compliance checks issued under the State-wide Inspection Program as well as other activities identified by regional intelligence.
Requiring a degree of judgement, discretion and experience, Senior Inspectors undertake more complex inspections of traders as they arise, including where there is a history of previous compliance breaches, or following a complaint of specific breaches.
Senior Inspectors carry out residential tenancy investigations including rental assessments and non-urgent repairs as required.
Senior Inspectors also perform front line dispute resolution, provide business and community education and lead or coordinate CAV campaign initiatives, as well as mentor CAV staff and provide leadership to workforce planning and implementation to ensure strategic priorities are achieved.
The work location for this position is Central Victoria.
Key Accountabilities include
· Assist the Area Manager in the coordination, planning and development of compliance activities and their implementation, including the resolution of operational problems consistent with program objectives.
· Manage aspects of ongoing compliance and education programs under limited direction, identifying opportunities to improve service delivery.
· Be appointed as an Inspector under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act and be delegated as an Inspector under the Residential Tenancies Act.
· Conduct a range of more complex, as well as routine, compliance activities as authorised under the legislation administered by CAV including investigations, inspections and the preparation of reports and briefs of evidence. This can include obtaining comprehensive written statements and affidavits for use in legal proceedings as directed by CAV, as well as issuing infringement notices.
About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
Technical Expertise
· Knowledge of, and/or relevant experience in legislative compliance and enforcement activities and CAV relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures OR capacity to learn and apply knowledge of all the above, as required.
Mandatory requirements
· Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, law or other related fields are desirable.
· A Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent qualification.
· A current Victorian Driver’s Licence. *The department will consider all reasonable adjustments for candidates with a disability.
