The Opportunity
As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will provide expert technical advice and support across financial accounting, compliance and reporting functions. Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will play a critical role in ensuring Parks Victoria meets its statutory, corporate and operational obligations under the Financial Management Act 1994 and applicable accounting standards.
You will lead key financial reporting activities, including month-end and year-end processes, preparation of financial statements, audit support, reconciliations and compliance reporting. As a senior subject matter expert, you'll also provide guidance on complex accounting issues, identify opportunities for process improvement and help strengthen financial governance practices across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist technical advice on financial accounting standards and compliance requirements.

span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Prepare and review financial statements and reports in accordance with accounting standards and legislative requirements.
- Manage month-end and year-end financial close processes and reporting activities.
- Build positive working relationships and collaborate effectively across teams to deliver shared outcomes.
- Analyse financial information, identify issues and develop practical solutions.
- Communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Support and guide team members on technical accounting and process matters.
- Coordinate reporting and financial analysis activities to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen financial reporting and performance.
- Support sound financial governance, compliance and risk management practices.
- Use data and reporting tools to provide insights and support decision-making.
- Contribute to strategic financial planning through the identification and resolution of emerging financial issues.
About You
You are an experienced finance professional who enjoys solving complex problems and delivering high-quality financial outcomes. With strong technical accounting expertise and excellent stakeholder engagement skills, you thrive in a collaborative environment and are committed to maintaining accuracy, integrity and continuous improvement in financial operations.
You'll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce (CPA or CA progression desirable).
- Strong financial reporting, analytical, reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using financial reporting tools such as Power BI.
- Experience in financial reporting, budgeting and analysis within a complex or government environment.
- Experience using enterprise financial systems, preferably Oracle.
- Demonstrated ability to build productive stakeholder relationships and communicate financial information effectively.
- Knowledge of financial governance, compliance obligations and accounting standards.
