The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Senior Family Engagement Worker to provide a critical role at Corrections and Justice Services.
About the Business Unit
Located in Maldon, Tarrengower Prison is a Minimum Security Prison for women. The focus of both prisons is rehabilitation via individual case management, employment, education, training and the provision of programs and targeted interventions to address offending behaviour and promote the development of prosocial behaviour. Tarrengower prison provides contemporary and quality correctional services that prepare women in our care for transition and reintegration.
In response to Corrections Victoria's recognition that trauma is a contributing and exacerbating factor in women's offending pathways, DPFC and Tarrengower Prison are also embedding a trauma-informed approach across policy and practice to ensure all staff working in the women's system can understand, recognise and respond appropriately to the effects of trauma.
About the Role
The Senior Family Engagement Worker will actively lead, plan, consult and advise on service and program development, and the implementation and delivery of family engagement measures for Tarrengower Prison.
The role will ensure the Family Engagement Service across the Women's Prison System complements the Correctional Practice Framework and meets the emerging needs and issues of mothers in our care to ensure responsivity to operational service demands.
Additionally, the role will include building relationships with other Government departments, such as the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) Child Protection, to develop strategies that assist women's transition to the family unit and the community in general.
