About the opportunity
We have a permanent, ongoing full-time opportunity for a Senior Engineer (Electrical Infrastructure) to join Energy Safe's Electrical Network Safety Team
You will contribute by:
- Review and assess electricity safety management schemes (ESMS) and bushfire mitigation plans (BMPs) and provide guidance and formal feedback to regulated energy entities to meet their obligations under relevant legislation and within Energy Safe requirements.
- Ensure ESMS and BMPs are fit for purpose, and infrastructure and traction safety management systems and risk assessments are adequately assessed to mitigate potential hazards and risks as far as practicable.
- Lead and/or assist with audits of regulated energy entity's compliance with ESMS and BMPs.
- Responsible for preparation and presentation of documentation to Energy Safe safety case evaluation panel and Energy Safe Commission for the acceptance of ESMS and BMP submissions.
- Review of documents such as asset management plans, technical and construction standards, emergency plans, inspection manuals and reports, to ensure compliance. Review and analyse databases to identify and report on safety trends and issues arising from electrical network incidents
- Provide regulatory guidance to industry, Energy Safe management and Victorian community on infrastructure safety including issues and changes relevant to Victorian legislation, Australian standards, codes, and practices.
- Provide thorough knowledge on the design, construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of electricity networks and key safety case outcomes.
- Liaise with regulated energy entities for the timely submission of ESMS and BMPs and provide timely advice to the regulated energy entities for their acceptance.
- Provide advice to assist in the investigation of infrastructure incidents in accordance with regulatory requirements and prepare technical reports, make enquiries, and support evidence gathering for prosecutions.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with government, peak bodies, industry infrastructure stakeholders and regulated entities.
- Provide regular reports, analysis, and recommendations to management and where necessary work with the Legal team to prepare improvement notices, direction letters and enforcement recommendations.
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and support to others to ensure consistency and quality in delivery of service.
- Other relevant duties as required.
To be successful, you'll have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering.
- Relevant experience of more than seven years in the electricity industry.
- Expert knowledge of the principles and application of safety management and knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and standards.
- Comprehensive understanding and prior experience with safety management systems and formal safety assessment frameworks.
- Strong skills and experience in delivering audit tasks, including formal reports providing assurance and advice to senior management.
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills and ability to interpret and apply relevant safety standards in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations, and standards.
