THE ROLE
The Senior Emergency Recovery Officer is responsible for developing, planning, and coordinating community-focused recovery activities to support communities across the state impacted by the January 2026 Fires. Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Recovery Support Program, this position is part of a dynamic team of staff supporting communities with their social recovery, in collaboration with the department's Operational Divisions. The role will play a key role in the delivery of the Victorian Emergency Recovery Support Program, focusing on supporting affected people with complex recovery needs.
This role requires exceptional relationship building, stakeholder management, communication, and people skills, as well as proven previous experienced in complex project management and program delivery, ideally within the emergency sector. A key focus for this role will be working with key stakeholders, including partner agencies and community groups, to support them to be engaged and participate in the works to identify and progress opportunities to embed a collaborative approach to enhance community recovery initiatives, through the establishment of strong stakeholder and community partnerships and engagement. Pivotal to this role will be experience in identifying opportunities to embed knowledge and skills attained through previous recovery programs to improve the long-term health and wellbeing of impacted communities.
This role operates within a highly dynamic and rapidly changing environment and requires the capacity to balance current service delivery needs with forward planning. It requires an advanced understanding of recovery within communities affected by major emergencies. This role also contributes to the development, management, and continuous improvement of social recovery activities, with a focus on building resilience and minimising the impact of emergencies on communities and individuals, especially those at greater risk in emergencies.
This role will also contribute to the 24-hour, 7-day-a-week preparedness and operations of state-wide emergency response activities in line with departmental guidelines, including undertaking the role of State Duty Officer on a rostered and on call basis.
