About the role:
The Senior Developer is part of the M365 & Platform team, which is responsible for designing and delivering application enhancements, managing production systems, and handling incidents and problems. This work is carried out using Microsoft cloud services including Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and legacy platforms to support departmental technology solutions.
The Senior Developer contributes to the development and delivery of solutions across multiple projects, including design, development and deployment services. The role also provides support for minor enhancements, break/fix maintenance, and ongoing system improvements across a range of departmental system solutions.
This position requires a highly skilled developer with extensive experience and expertise across a broad range of technologies and application architectures, particularly within the Microsoft ecosystem and legacy environments.

About you:
The Department of Health is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Developer to contribute to the design, development and enhancement of digital solutions that support Victoria's health system. This role works within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment to build high-quality applications, improve existing platforms and ensure technology solutions meet organisational needs and community expectations.
The successful candidate will bring strong written communication skills, producing clear and well-structured briefs, reports and technical documentation tailored to their audience. You will ensure written work is accurate, purposeful and consistent with departmental standards. You will also contribute to policy development by analysing complex information, identifying implications for the health system and presenting coherent options and recommendations. Staying well informed about contemporary issues will be essential to ensuring development work aligns with broader policy directions.
Problem solving is central to this role. You will gather and interpret technical and business information, examine issues from multiple perspectives and develop practical, sustainable solutions. You will support the implementation and continuous improvement of digital products, monitoring outcomes and adjusting approaches to achieve effective results.
A systems-thinking mindset will help you understand the relationships between technology, users and organisational processes. You will diagnose risks, opportunities and trends within the internal and external environment and apply this understanding to guide development decisions. Equally important is your ability to manage yourself effectively. You will seek feedback, reflect on your impact and apply insights to enhance the way you work. You will demonstrate emotional awareness, particularly in complex or high-pressure situations, and adapt your approach to maintain constructive relationships.
