Position accountabilitiesThe Senior Departmental Liaison Officer is the key link between the Minister’s office and the Department, ensuring critical information and advice flow smoothly in a fast-paced environment. This senior role manages and coordinates briefings, correspondence and documentation, while developing strategies for best practice and continuous improvement. You’ll provide expert advice to the Office of the Secretary and senior leaders, ensuring the Department responds effectively to the Minister’s operational needs. With a strong understanding of the relevant portfolios and departmental operations, you’ll guide and inform the Minister’s office on emerging priorities. As part of the Minister’s office team, you’ll uphold engagement protocols and role-model VPS values, fostering a positive, collaborative culture. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled communicator and strategist to play a pivotal role at the heart of government, supporting decision-making and delivering outcomes that matter to the community.

Key Selection Criteria
We’re seeking a dynamic professional with a deep understanding of government structures, protocols and operations to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. You will be able juggle multiple priorities and deadlines, working independently within clear guidelines to deliver accurate, timely outcomes.
Your sharp critical thinking and problem-solving skills will help you assess situations, make sound decisions and act or escalate appropriately. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities are essential—you’ll build and maintain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, negotiate effectively and resolve issues constructively.
You will also be capable of managing and reviewing sensitive, confidential materials with discretion and can identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve systems.
