The Coroners Court of Victoria is responsible for:
• Independently investigating deaths and fires.
• Reducing preventable deaths.
• Promoting public health and safety and the administration of justice.
About the role
The Senior Coroner's Solicitor is responsible for supporting the Coroner with their investigation into reportable deaths and fires by providing specialist end to end case management and assistance.
Core functions of the role are to:
• Undertake legal research and analysis and prepare complex legal reports, briefs, and correspondence.
• Work effectively with stakeholders and agencies to obtain additional information needed to support the coronial investigation.
• Prepare coronial inquest hearings and instruct at court as counsel assisting.
• Provide high quality advice on sensitive and/or complex legal issues.
• Lead and support a small team to ensure the effective provision of legal services.
About you
As the successful candidate, you will be a legal professional with exceptional communication skills with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will also demonstrate:
• Ability to apply critical judgement to undertake in-depth legal research and analysis and prepare high level advice in relation to legal matters.
• Effectively manage a caseload of complex matters ensuring timelines are met.
• Coach, motivate and support others in the pursuit of a common goal.
It is a requirement that the incumbent is admitted to practise (unrestricted) as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Victoria or a similar jurisdiction within Australia (with a minimum of two years post admission experience).
