The Commission is an independent statutory body that promotes improvement in policies and practices affecting the safety and wellbeing of Victorian children and young people. It has a particular focus on vulnerable children and young people. The Commission is also the regulator for the Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme. Reporting to the Manager Regulatory Compliance, the Senior Compliance Officer takes a lead role in delivering the Child Safe Standards (the CSS) compliance program, including implementing the risk assessment framework, working with co-regulators, undertaking compliance assessment activities and compliance and enforcement actions, and providing advice on issues relating to the implementation of the CSS.
The role requires that the person is trained and appointed as an Authorised Officer (AO) for the purposes of Part 6 Division 3 of the Act and will be required to conduct remote and field-based inspections. As Authorised Officers, the Senior Compliance Officer must have completed a Certificate IV in Government Investigations and successfully complete the initial and ongoing Authorised Officer training program.
Please note that the Victorian Government has announced that the Reportable Conduct and Child Safe Standards functions will transfer from the Commission for Children and Young People to the Social Services Regulator. Whilst recruitment to this role will commence at the Commission for Children and Young People, it is anticipated that the role will be transferred to the Social Services Regulator in early 2026.
In this role you will:
- Assist in the development and delivery of the Commission's compliance program.
- Lead the development and implementation of compliance strategies and initiatives to deal with complex sectors, organisations and child safety issues and drive improvements in child safety.
- Undergo the initial and ongoing training requirements to be Authorised Officer
- Provide authoritative verbal and written advice and recommendations to the Manager, Regulatory Compliance and the Senior Leadership Team on emerging issues informed by data analysis
- Assist in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with co-regulators and other stakeholders across all levels of government and non-government organisations to ensure stakeholder engagement in the development of operational policies
- Develop collaborative working relationships with Commission staff and key stakeholders
- Managing/supervising staff in a small team including developing staff and assisting them in escalating matters to the Manager, Regulatory Compliance
