The Social Policy Group (SPG) provides expert advice to the Premier on education, health, families, fairness and housing, justice, community security and emergency management portfolios. SPG also supports the Minister for Multicultural Affairs through the Multicultural Affairs Branch and Victorian Multicultural Commission.
Victorian Multicultural Commission
The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) was established in 1983 to be the conduit between Victoria’s multicultural communities and government. The VMC is an independent statutory body constituted under the Multicultural Victoria Act 2011, which sets out the VMC’s objectives and functions. The VMC advises the Minister for Multicultural Affairs on a broad range of issues facing our diverse communities, oversees a network of Regional Advisory Councils, and delivers initiatives to celebrate, promote and raise the visibility of Victoria’s multicultural and faith communities.
As the main link between communities and government, the VMC engages with multicultural and multifaith communities to understand the issues, challenges and opportunities faced by those communities. The VMC works to identify and recommend solutions to government, policymakers and community organisations to ensure public services are inclusive and accessible.
About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for a skilled and committed candidate in the VMC, within DPC.
The Senior Communications and Events Adviser plays a critical role at the VMC, helping to shape the organisation’s public narrative, community engagement, event delivery and stakeholder reach.
This position helps lead a small, dynamic team responsible for integrated communications, digital strategy, media, branding, sponsorship and event delivery. It will strengthen the VMC’s visibility, build strategic partnerships, unlock new revenue streams, and ensure a consistent and compelling voice across all platforms and initiatives.
With exceptional written communication skills and a deep understanding of multicultural engagement, the Senior Communications and Events Adviser will deliver an annual calendar of public-facing campaigns and events (including Cultural Diversity Week, the Multicultural Awards for Excellence and Multicultural Film Festival) and play a key role in ensuring the VMC contribution to a socially cohesive Victoria.
The position also includes a key role in issues management and emergency response communications and contributes to the development of whole-of-government messaging related to multicultural affairs.
