About the opportunity
The Senior Communications Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing communications plans and activities across a range of projects and initiatives, and providing strategic communications advice, to support Energy Safe Victoria's objectives as the state's energy safety regulator.
Reporting to the Strategic Communications Manager, the role works closely with project teams and stakeholders to develop and deliver communications plans, activities and materials that support project objectives, stakeholder engagement, reputation management, and Energy Safe's priorities.
This role will also provide support to the broader Strategic Communications team with managing media enquiries, coordinating social media, copywriting, website content, brand management, and publication and collateral production, where required.
You will contribute by:
- Develop and implement communications plans and activities to promote energy safety awareness in the community and industry, support internal project delivery, and amplify Energy Safe's brand and reputation.
- Provide strategic communications advice to project managers, senior leaders and key stakeholders.
- Prepare high-quality and audience specific communications materials across multiple channels, including website content, industry eDMs (electronic direct mail), key messages and FAQs, presentations and stakeholder correspondence.
- Support the Strategic Communications Manager with managing the Energy Safe brand.
- Provide support in managing media requests to ensure Energy Safe's position and key messages are reflected in media coverage.
- Identify communication risks and issues and provide appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Write, edit, proofread and manage the production of industry, stakeholder and corporate communications materials.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Other duties as directed by the Strategic Communications Manager.
To be successful, you'll have:
- An appropriate tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or a similar discipline.
- Significant experience in a similar role in applying strongly developed communications and/or media skills.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering strategic communications plans and activities for projects and initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience applying and communicating brand guidelines to ensure consistent, accurate and professional materials.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships and provide pragmatic communications advice to stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate and tailored communication materials including industry articles, website content, social media, collateral, corporate publications, media releases and speeches.
- Experience managing media opportunities and enquiries, including providing media support after hours during incidents and emergency situations.
- Skilled in simplifying technical or complex information for diverse audiences.
- Ability to edit and proofread to
a high standard.
- Ability to identify communications risks and issues that could impact organisation reputation or strategic objectives and apply sound judgement to develop practical and effective solutions.
- An understanding of Victoria's energy safety framework and regulation (Desired).
- Basic graphic design capability, including experience preparing communication materials and presentations using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (Desired).
- Experience and understanding of the role and responsibilities of a statutory authority in the broader Victorian Government context (Desired).
