About the role
The Senior Communications and Engagement Adviser is part of a small team that delivers communications and engagement services to promote awareness and community understanding of the Workforce Inspectorate and enhance compliance with the law. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Senior Communications and Engagement Adviser provides high-quality strategic communications advice for both internal and external communications. The Senior Communications and Engagement Adviser will work with relevant stakeholders such as Assistant Directors to develop and implement education strategies, to promote compliance and understanding with our legislation.
The position is also required to manage content for day-to-day communication activities and projects including; management of advertising campaigns, identification of target audiences and liaison with the mainstream media.
Key accountabilities
- Provide strategic communications advice to senior leaders regarding key messages, target audiences, internal communications, digital presence, media releases, publications, campaigns and marketing activities.
- Lead the development and delivery of complex communications projects, such as advertising campaigns, stakeholder education initiatives and staff engagement programs.
- Excellent skills in developing communication collateral – web content, presentations, media releases and scripts, eDMs, web copy and fact sheets that is consistent with the Workforce Inspectorate’s voice and brand.
- Manage the Workforce Inspectorate’s social media presence – ensuring it aligns with the organisation’s strategic goals, curating content, moderating comments, ensuring compliance with the VPS social media operational policy and guide, and identifying ways to increase engagement.
- Initiate and maintain effective relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders such as government agencies, business groups, unions and relevant community support services.
- Provide professional media relations, including liaising with journalists on issues relevant to the Workforce Inspectorate, and identifying media opportunities and risks.
- Support the delivery of education activities to raise awareness of the Workforce Inspectorate and its statutory responsibilities, including events, compliance campaigns and speaking engagements.
- Other duties and projects as required.
Key Selection Criteria
- Outstanding communication skills including experience producing tailored and impactful communication materials for broad audiences and the ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders to understand your audience
- Experience in leading the development and delivery of communications strategies and advertising campaigns
- The enthusiasm, confidence and judgment to work with senior leaders, external stakeholders and the media.
- Well-developed ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at senior levels, including the ability to influence decision making.
- Strong self-management and organisational skills, including demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage projects and allocated work under tight deadlines, keep accurate records and provide logical advice to support decision making.
- Experience in leading the development and delivery of stakeholder engagement strategies and plans will be valued.
Experience and qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline such as communications, journalism, marketing, or public relations.
Desirable requirements
- Strong experience in communicating about regulatory obligations, new laws or schemes.
