Occupation: Other
Location: Melbourne - CBD and Inner Metro suburbs

About the role:
Business Analytics Unit (BAU) is one of four units within Organisational Planning and Performance Division (OPPD), currently located within Capability Department. The other three units are Corporate Statistics Unit, Corporate and Workplace Performance Unit, and Strategy and Organisational Planning Unit.
OPPD supports Victoria Police through delivering a range of functions to support organisational planning, strategy development, Tasking and Coordination (T&C), and workplace governance and performance, delivering a range of products and services to support managers at all levels of the organisation to make informed decisions for organisational planning and strategy development.
Reporting to the OPPD Superintendent, BAU consists of 1 x VPS6 unit manager, 2 x VPS5, 2 x VPS4, 2 x VPS3 and 1 x sergeant. BAU's mission is to provide accurate, timely and consistent business analytics to support evidence-based management of resources and service delivery, particularly in the following areas:
BAU achieves these objectives through delivery of a range of operational and strategic dashboard products within the Organisational Performance Hub (OPH), currently delivered via the Strategic Analysis Software (SAS) Portal, allowing Victoria Police managers and intelligence practitioners easy access to important performance related data. OPH and SAS are also used to undertake more complex analysis and forecast modelling to identify emerging issues, and for operational policing purposes to enable ready access to key data to support frontline operations. Additionally, since the introduction of the T&C Uplift Project in mid-2025, T&C dashboards developed and maintained by BAU are now regarded as the single source of truth for T&C.
Key stakeholders for this position are internal clients who request development of OPH dashboards for various corporate and operational purposes. BAU employees typically consult with internal stakeholders to define their business needs and work with stakeholders to develop solutions. Some examples of current projects include dashboard products for Road Policing Command (Enforcement dashboard and Preliminary Breath Testing dashboard), and Transit and Public Safety Command (refinements to the Public Transport Crime Dashboard). BAU is also working with other OPPD work units to develop the required reporting for the Victoria Police strategy: A Safe Victoria introduced in August 2025, with dashboard efforts specifically focusing on measures of serious crime and violent crime, and improving community trust and confidence in police.
Victoria Police is a contemporary and agile workplace and supports flexible working arrangements.
