Senior Analyst
Victorian Parliamentary Budget Office
About us
The Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) supports members of parliament to inform policy development and debate in parliament and the Victorian community. To do this, we provide independent, authoritative, and timely research and analysis services across a wide range of topics.
Our team is crucial to the quality of our services and engagement with our client base. To deliver across the breadth of requests for our work, we require a diverse mix of experience and expertise, and proactive leadership.
We provide on request client services to members of parliament including:
Working at the PBO provides a unique opportunity to support the Parliament of Victoria and policy development by parties across the Parliament. When Victorian MPs publicly release our products, you may see the impact of your analysis and research on policy development, and parliamentary and public debate. More than any other office supporting Victorian MPs, working at the PBO will give you exposure to policies from across all functions of government and the political spectrum.
The role
Senior Analysts support the Manager of Policy Analysis and Advice, and are a key driver of the PBO's client work.
To deliver our services to Members of Parliament, we need people who have experience and expertise in:
Your primary role relates to our core services of policy costings and advice reports. As a senior team member, you will support junior staff and deliver complex, challenging or high priority services yourself.
The role extends beyond our core services, and you will routinely support the PBO executive's engagement with external stakeholders. In this element of the role, you will maintain key resources relied on for client engagement and occasionally attend meetings to support senior staff. Additionally, you will establish and maintain clear channels of communication with key VPS stakeholders.
We recognise that the best candidates may not have experience in delivering on all of our product types or competencies. A strong candidate is one who has some skills the PBO needs and demonstrates the ability to build capacity in other areas. A successful candidate would be tasked with work that makes the most of their existing skills, and would be provided the opportunities to develop their skills and experience in areas they are interested in.
Not sure you meet all the selection criteria?
We recognise that women and people from diverse backgrounds may be less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single criterion. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you're interested in this role but your experience or qualifications don't align perfectly, we strongly encourage you to apply or to contact us.
Conditions of employment
We highly value our reputation for independence and seek to build it over time. It is essential to client engagement, how our work is received and to improving public transparency. Applicants must disclose any affiliations or memberships that could be seen as a conflict of interest in their cover letter.
To be considered for ongoing roles you must:
