THE ROLE
The Senior Advisor supports the objectives and activities of the Victorian Public Sector Enablers Network (the Network), an employee-led group that represents the needs, interests and concerns of Victorian public service (VPS) and public sector employees with disability and carers to ensure a fair and equitable working environment.
- The role has responsibility for coordinating and implementing key initiatives and activities across the VPS for, and on behalf of, the Network. The Senior Advisor will help to drive an inclusive workplace culture and positive employee experience.
- The Senior Advisor coordinates the Network's operations and works to the strategic direction of its Leadership Team and Executive Sponsor, in alignment with its Charter and Work Plan, which includes:
- consulting with departmental/agency-level disability employee networks, the VPS Autism Success Network, and other member groups to assist with any strategic and operational needs, and current and emerging issues
- undertaking, developing and contributing to projects that support employees with disability and carers in the VPS
- planning, coordinating and promoting a calendar of events and activities that promote accessibility and inclusion in the VPS, including social and networking events, professional development activities, and recognition of days of significance (e.g. World Autism Awareness Day, World Mental Health Day, and International Day of People with Disability)
- producing and contributing to a range of communications for members and stakeholders to support staff with disability and carers, and to promote the Network and membership benefits
- facilitating members with inquiries, seeking advice and informal peer support
- representing the Network at public sector and disability industry events, communities of practice, consultation forums, committees, advisory and working groups
- reporting on and evaluating the activities of the Network, the needs of staff with disability, and advocating for operational and systemic improvements.
The role is akin to a “General Manager” who collaborates with a range of internal and external organisations that support the employment of people with disability, such as central and regionally-based employees, diversity and inclusion practitioners, the Victorian Public Sector Commission, the Office for Disability, peak bodies and universities.
The position reports to Anaab Rooble, Manager, Diversity and Inclusion and the Co-chairs of VPS Enablers Network and the operational responsibilities of this role will be managed by
the co-chairs.
The funding for the position is enabled through the Victorian Secretaries Board and is fixed-term for 12 months, rotating across the VPS. For the 12 month fixed term period, the role will transfer to the Department of Familes, Fairness and Housing.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Support the development and implementation of projects and initiatives across the Victorian Public Sector for the Network, that will foster a safe, accessible and welcoming environment for people with disability and carers and lead to improved equitable employment opportunities and outcomes for people with disability and carers.
- Provide strategic policy advice to departments on their Disability/Accessibility Action Plans (or equivalent) and meeting the disability employment targets described in Getting to Work: Victorian public sector disability employment action plan 2018–2025 including advising on best practice and identifying opportunities for improvement including and any barriers to full participation and ensuring all legislative and policy requirements are met.
- Prepare and coordinate quality reports, briefs, evaluations, presentations and other communications on a range of accessibility and inclusion issues for the Network Leadership Team, Executive Sponsor, and for various internal and external forums.
