Senior Adviser, Digital and Communications
- Salary: $113,022 - $136,747 (Plus superannuation)

The Role
We are seeking a Senior Adviser, Digital and Communications to support the Digital and Communications team for producing compelling content for a range of target audiences, including for our Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) website, Victorian Skills Gateway website and social media channels, as well as for speeches, media releases and promotional material. This role also supports the wider VSA brand and communications strategy, including preparing communications plans and delivering communications tactics to support VSA projects, programs and initiatives.
In this role you will have excellent digital and communication skills, and outstanding stakeholder management skills, including for liaison with senior staff in VSA business units. You will also have strong technical and project management skills, and exceptional professional writing skills to both prepare and oversee the production of a range of written content.
The Digital and Communications team has a presence in both Melbourne and Ballarat. This role is based in the VSA's Melbourne CBD office and may require occasional presence at the Ballarat GovHub office.
Main accountabilities:
- Working with the Manager and Principal Adviser of the Digital and Communications Unit, support the brand and communications strategy for the VSA, including the preparation of written content for the VSA website, Victorian Skills Gateway website and any other public VSA platforms such as the VSA LinkedIn channel and any other social media channels.
- With the Manager and/or Principal Adviser, oversee the information architecture of the VSA and Victorian Skills Gateway websites, including implementing an ongoing program of continuous improvement.
- Curate and prepare content for a range of VSA print and digital platforms, including, but not limited, to the VSA website, Victorian Skills Gateway website, VSA LinkedIn channel, speeches, presentations, media releases and briefs. Publish online content through our 2 content management systems (Single Digital Presence (SDP)/Drupal and Squiz Matrix), in adherence with writing style guidelines and accessibility principles.
- Provide expert and specialist advice and support to VSA senior staff, business units and project areas on external and internal communications, print and digital content, branding and reputational strategies.
- Working with the Manager and/or Principal Adviser, undertake user testing, analysis and research across the VSA's online resources, and implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance audience reach and engagement.
- Undertake procurement, develop project plans, manage risks and issues and focus on continuous improvement. Ensure that projects support and are connected to the wider VSA key priorities and deliverables.
- Develop strong working relationships across the VSA, Skills and Employment Group, Office of TAFE Coordination and Delivery and DJSIR Communications to ensure the effective support for and coordination of VSA communication strategies.

The position of Senior Adviser, Digital and Communications forms a part of the Services Branch Branch, which sits within Victorian Skills Authority (VSA).
The Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) provides evidence-based planning and solutions to meet current and future skills needs in Victoria. We are an administrative office led by a chief executive officer and supported by an advisory board of key stakeholders.

Our role is to gather and analyse industry data, identify where there are current and emerging skills shortages in Victoria's workforce, work with stakeholders to develop strategies to fill these gaps and drive engagement, collaboration and innovation across Victoria's skills system.
The VSA has 4 branches – Engagement and Skills Reform Branch, Services Branch, Analysis and Insights Branch and Executive and Corporate Services Branch.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have the following main skills and experience:
- Specialist Expertise in Digital, Communications and Marketing: Knowledge of marketing and communications theory and practice. Experience guiding online communications activities and digital channels. Knowledge and understanding of content design and creation for digital products. Experience using customer/user research to identify opportunities to deliver additional value to users. Provides specialist advice on digital content strategy. Understands the information needs of client groups (including students and influencers). Prepares wireframes and mock-ups for digital products and services.
- Written communication: Demonstrates experience writing for the web, including producing content that guides and informs decisions. Creates and edits digital content to meet government web standards, meet user needs and ensure it engages target audiences. Uses appropriate style and formats for digital content (web copy, social media, eDM) and the preparation of briefs, correspondence and reports. Maintains a high-level of professionalism in written materials aligned to Victorian government guidelines and VPS values. Ensures timely written responses. Edits and approves contributions from others.
- Project management: Undertakes procurement and contract management where required. Consults, liaises with and influences key stakeholders. Ensures project objectives are met. Monitors performance against objectives and manages project risks and issues. Produces detailed project plans where objectives are clearly defined and action steps for achieving them are clearly specified.
- Relationship building: Builds trust through consistent actions, values and communication. Establishes and maintains relationships with people at all levels. Forges useful partnerships with people across business areas, functions and organisations. Minimises surprises. Promotes harmony and consensus through diplomatic handling of disagreements.
- Planning and organising: Establishes systems and procedures to guide work and track progress. Identifies processes, tasks and resources required to achieve goals. Recognises actual and potential barriers and finds effective ways to deal with them. Sets clearly defined objectives and priorities and operates accordingly, reviewing and adjusting as required.
