The Opportunity
The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting VicGrid's financial management by providing expert advice on complex accounting matters. The role is about ensuring the timely preparation of accurate month-end reports to inform strategic and operational decision-making.The role also contributes to the development of budgets, forecasts, and financial statements in accordance with applicable legislation, accounting standards, and whole-of-government reporting requirements.
What you will deliver
- Provide expert financial advice to senior management on complex accounting policies, transactions, and emerging issues.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy in accruals, provisions, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Maintain compliance with the Financial Management Act 1994 and uphold the integrity of the general ledger.
- Implement process improvements in financial statement preparation and government reporting to enhance accuracy and reliability.
- Contribute to internal and external audit processes, resolving complex accounting matters and ensuring compliance.
- Prepare and lodge BAS and FBT returns in line with taxation legislation and statutory deadlines.
- Practise cultural safety by creating environments, relationships and systems free from racism and discrimination so that people can feel safe, valued and able to participate.
What you will bring
- A Finance-related qualification is required.
- A professional accounting qualification (CA or CPA) is required.
- A strong understanding of accounting standards and Victorian and Federal government financial reporting requirements will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and the preparation of statutory and management reports and associated commentary.
- Strong report writing skills to prepare a range of documents.
