The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Senior Aboriginal Workforce Advisor – Projects and Programs within our Aboriginal Justice Group.
This is an Aboriginal designated position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
About the Business Unit
Aboriginal Justice Group drives systemic change in the justice system, to achieve improved outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians. We work in partnership with Victorian Aboriginal communities and are guided by principles of Aboriginal self-determination.
We lead the implementation of the Aboriginal Justice Agreement and community partnerships, support the development of policy and legislation impacting Aboriginal Victorians, deliver the Stolen Generations Reparations Package, implement the department's Aboriginal Workforce Strategy, administer funding for Aboriginal community led program delivery and lead the department's engagement with the Victorian Treaty processes.
Our purpose is to drive systemic change that eliminates Aboriginal over-representation in the criminal justice system, addresses past injustices and ensures Aboriginal communities have access to an equitable justice system that is shaped by self-determination and protects and upholds human, civil, legal and cultural rights.
The Aboriginal Workforce Unit (AWU) sits within the Aboriginal Justice Group and is responsible for the development and delivery of the department's Aboriginal Workforce Strategy (the strategy) and associated programs. The AWU provides ongoing support to Aboriginal employees and manages a range of Aboriginal employment initiatives. The AWU contributes towards the innovation of new programs and policies to strengthen career development, cultural diversity and inclusion across the department.
About the role:
Reporting to the Manager Aboriginal Workforce Unit, the Senior Aboriginal Workforce Advisor will be responsible for coordinating key initiatives under the strategy and contributing towards the department's employment and career development goals under the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, and the VPSC Barring Djinang Aboriginal Employment Strategy. You will support the growth and operation of the department's Aboriginal Staff Network and development of the next phase of the Aboriginal Workforce Strategy.
The Senior Aboriginal Workforce Advisor routinely provides written and verbal strategic advice on Aboriginal employment and cultural inclusion across all business areas of the department.
This role will regularly represent the AWU to the departments Aboriginal Staff Network and Aboriginal community events and continue to build upon our goal to maintain the department as an employer of choice for Aboriginal people.
